DESCRIPTION:

This week...

-We played new shit from REVOCATION, DIAMOND PLATE, POWERWOLF, MERIDIAN DAWN, HIDDEN MASTERS, SINISTER REALM, ASHES OF ARES, and more;
-I had a lash-out against those narrow-minded asshats that don't have the knowledge required to appreciate more than one single genre of metal or rock and dear me, that was a breath of fresh air;
-I ranted about EXTREMA and how their latest album, "The Seed of Foolishness", ups the ante in terms of genre bending and twisting;
-I inputted about Dave Mustaine's claim that goes along the lines of him supposedly being the only one man enough to throw melody into what he still calls his heavy metal parade; I also point out that many of his peers in thrash metal definitely have the upper hand in terms of excellent, quality thrash with a multi-genre infusion entwined with their core-approach;
-I give y'all the lowdown on the Bill Ward VS Sabbath situation and rant, without any sort of censorship, about how Ozzy's being a hypocrit about it all by making false claims about Bill's (supposed) current lack of possibilities;
-I review new releases from MERCENARY, HIDDEN MASTERS, and HUNTRESS;
-We check out Scott Ian's PoV about genre categories, his status in ANTHRAX, his overall lack of recalling of the high school science class teachings, and his boundary-pushing idea for a new way to look at music composition via mathematical formulas.

-We discussed the giga-wave of blues-inspired rock and metal taking the world by storm and educating everyone a spell about the root of all heaviness;

-I described, at length, my allergic reaction to metal containing too many electronic elements to a point where it's hard not to be reminded of that fuck-horrid disco wave from the 80s and how it almost brought shock rock to its death bed (think KI$$);
-I linked that concept to the new DEATH SS (yes, it "shocked" me that much);
-We discuss the Newsted LP and how the contrasting lineup we have here leads to a hell of a blend of influences on "Heavy Metal Music" to a point where it's hard to say for sure whether the man wants to go for a stripped down sound or mall acceptance;
-We look at an interview with Bobby Blitz from OVERKILL detailing his political views, his work philosophies, the New Jersey scene, the upcoming album hitting the shelves in March, his musical influences, his upbringing, his minor stroke, etc;
-We dive into a conversation between Nikki Sixx and Corey Taylor about the latter's ghost stories book "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Heaven".

DESCRIPTION

This week:

-We played new shit from CROCELL, CARCASS, VISTA CHINO, WATAIN, AXXION, HIBRIA, TRUE WIDOW, and more;
-I ranted about what relevant death metal sounds like and made a tiny but fucking accurate list of the top three most irritating flaws a lot of DM albums out there seem to bet on too insistantly;
-I explained how I, as a metal journalist, differ from most when it comes to listening sessions and how I view individual albums VS a band's discography;
-I talked a bunch of crap about the upcoming "metal x-mas opera" that's in talks at the moment featuring members from ANTHRAX, TESTAMENT, HAMMERFALL, UNISONIC, etc + the way the lamest cashcows are being milked by even the least likely candidates all across the board;
-I threw in my impressions on the way Phil Anselmo is constantly being stalked by various media outlets to repeat the same shit over and over about how he feels on various PANTERA related-topics; leave the whole fucking matter alone already or get more creative with your questions!;
-We take a look at one atrociously wonky interview STP had with Nikki Sixx and I make my comments about how the bromance seems to be a tad too bubbly;
-I interview AGGRAVATOR and MORTAL FORM;
-We check out interviews where Mick Brown rants about his arrest thanks to his golf cart adventures, the CoB keyboardist struggles with a math question, and Portnoy makes a less than appropriate remark about band finances in a powertrio versus DREAM THEATER.

This week:

-We played new shit from COLOSSO, ORCHID, TORMENTED, SOULHEALER, ANVIL, MAGISTER TEMPLI, and more;
-We observed the situation with Tim Lambesis and pondered on the possibilities around the theories throw around by the law and discuss the fact that this wankerfest gets a hell of a lot of fingers pointed at the metal community cos the government generally is very retarded and quick to criticize;
-We talk about the dude that interrupted a MOTLEY CRUE gig to knock Mick Mars down, which led us to a point where we check out bits and pieces of the VH1 Behind the Music Remastered showcasing MOTLEY's up and downs throughout their career, with some emphasis on the manslaughter charges pressed against Vince Neil, and also Mick's bone disease;
-I go off on a really enthused rant about a couple "new oldschool" releases; the new TORMENTED, SOULHEALER, and MAGISTER TEMPLI;
-I also explain why the new releases from THE AMENTA and ATROCITY are pretty fucking hit/miss (metal film score diehards, feel free to throw in the hate);

Last Saturday:

-We played new shit from THE DEAD DAISIES, CHTHONIC, HEAVEN SHALL BURN, BLACK WATER RISING, WITCH CROSS, IMMOLATION, THE WINERY DOGS, EVILE, and more;
-I talked about my impressions on the latest SUFFOCATION record "Pinnacle of Bedlam", and gave my three cents on how I thought their Montreal show was gonna be rad given their historical experience in the death metal scene;
-I ranted about how practically every metal fan used to be a punk;
-I elaborated on my love for FLOTSAM & JETSAM's "Ugly Noise";
-I dived into some audio of Jason Newsted comparing his songwriting to his inspiration chaneling process for painting, and also checked out his advice for young bands, that mostly revolves around the shit he had to cope with when he was in METALLICA (that's the easy guess part);
-I rant about music theory and how a whole bunch of legends don't know next to the flying squat in the sky about it;
-I discuss a couple albums bands I interviewed really dig; PYRITHION's new single and KREATOR's "Phantom Antichrist" (I talk in length about how this album seems too commercially viable and built upon the band's sudden NEED to be catchy);

-I bash away at new crappy ass MEGADETH;

-I elaborate on why I think HYPOCRISY's new album's fucking upsetting;
-I rant about fake drums and beat boxes;

DESCRIPTION:

This week...

-We played new shit from IMPRECATION, AMON AMARTH, DARK TRANQUILITY, THE OCEAN, TOMBSTONE HIGHWAY, MOLEST, SCALE THE SUMMIT, & plenty of my brutal as fuck A&R discoveries that will seriously tear your face off and show you how it's done - if you're not eclectic and/or and can't appreciate variation, this week's installment, in particular, is a big Fuck You statement in bold letters;
-We chat a bit about my new featurette: a 100% honest and to the point weekly questionaire delivered to ALL the bands I stream, asking 'em about their opinions on actuality topics and new metal releases; a couple peeps answered it and the results are hilarious and somehow in tandem with my own thoughts on the last couple months in metal and rock;
-We talk Dark Descent and oldschool death metal;
-We go over the topic of the Ozz falling off the wagon 70s style and suddenly getting up again looking far more lucid than ever;
-I, of course, review the new Sabbath material that saw the light of day late last week and I insist on the fact that it doesn't represent the whole fucking album for damned sure, silencing those immature trollish haters;
-I review the latest TRINAKRIUS release and discuss how floored I was by the new PYRITHION single and how some bands fronted by mallcore divas can end up turning into iconic modern death metal giants - yup, this is a HUGE fucking exception to the golden rule;
-I discuss how questionable the new collaboration between Corpsegrinder and KILLSWITCH ENGAYGE's Adam will sure sound when it takes full shape;
-I look at CULT OF ENDTIME's input on the new KEEP OF KALESSIN material and weigh in on how much I think it totally blows in comparison to the previous record (that I thought was one MASSIVE essential) and even grab some audio of Obsidian C. jamming some stalwart riffs in his hotel room to go "case in point" on all of you; the stuff he jammed was FAR better than Introspection;
-I discuss CULT OF ENDTIME's sources of inspiration, and the albums they dig;
-I talk about ORECUS' hate for DEAD BY APRIL and their worship for oldschool SLAYER (and consequently end up bagging on newschool SLAYER because it's extremely fucking legal to do so with how Kerry's been dancing of late);
-I talk CULT OF LUNA and how I used to think they were overhyped but finally warmed up to their new stuff;
-I talk Swedish winters and their impact on the inspiration of some musicians.

If you're in one of those bands that sent replies to my Q's after the show stream or after I recorded it, your answers will be reviewed on the next installment - the opportunity to chit chat always stands.

This week's episode is for the oldschoolers among us and if you're not eclectic and aware of where metal all started from, you might feel like a bit of an ignorant wuss. Never a bad time to learn though, so here comes the lengthy class;

-This week, I start shit off by diving into the main topic that creates all the buzz now that the spring's coming to an end; SABBATH (minus Bill) is back around with a new album. There was a listening session in L.A., for those of you that didn't know; an endless series of reports came about and I scanned through 'em; I read one and drop my two cents about each bit since the author seems not to know next to fucking crap about what SABBATH is all about and why the old albums even got that successful to begin with; I also play Artisan News' bafflingly encouraging review of the record, and we hear snippets of interviews containing comments about Rubin that I pretty much agree with, but am now giving the dude an inch of benefit of the doubt at LEAST;
-I rant about Mustaine's ''Supercollider'' and the mixed feelings I have about its release and the confusing type of coverage the man does around it on Twitter and through every single media outlet he can reach. The man's about as illuminated as ever, but ironically, the first audio sample sounds fucking grand - hard to get a clear position on this one RIGHT NOW, but it's a laugh to look at a couple contradictions;
-I review new releases from BOVINE, FLOTSAM & JETSAM, and MEMORY GARDEN (with my usual outspoken banter doing the honors);
-We blast new stuff from SODOM, FLOTSAM & JETSAM, THE RESISTANCE,FREEDOMS REIGN, SUIDAKRA, MEMORY GARDEN, and heaps fucking more.

1. COLOSSO: The Epiphany

DESCRIPTION:

Man, this installment was fucking bleak. We dived into topics I honestly thought I wouldn't exploit and shred into bonedust ever again, but there ya go, it happened, and I'm again being a 100% purely raw n' honest about my input on the shit that can happen in metal (AND the great things that have a way of surprising all of us). Gather 'round with your open minds cos I'm sure as heck not candycoating anything.

In a nutshell, here's what happened:

-We grilled some throat-grabbin' new cuts from DEVIL TO PAY, YEARS OF TYRANTS, KALMAH, DOUBLE TREAT, MPIRE OF EVIL, ARSIS, & more (I was on a particularly apeshit NWOBHM kick this week; you can tell by a couple of the obscure titles in that playlist at the bottom that'll make you wide-eyed);
-I tamed a few paranoid souls by clarifying the Holt & EXODUS situation - kids, they are NOT disbanding. Holt won't join SLAYER cos he's a fucking songwriter - that enuff of a reason to confirm it without needing the interview snippet audio I'm playin' to back it up;
-We look at the painfully shitty new single from Geoff's Scabryche and elaborate on exactly why it's stupidly so damned okay to call this dude a hack of late;
-We discuss the much talked about Remastered version of PANTERA's ''Behind the Music'' special and how it probably won't be much more considerate towards Phil Anselmo cos let's face it, the original DID fucking take jabs at the guy and he deserves all the respect in the fucking world;
-I give you my impressions on the first few tidbits I read from Rex's memoir and I go over its intro with a couple details that made me personally infuriated when I read 'em;
-We dissect the topic of the internet and how it's been helping bands swing the DIY way the last couple years;
-We look at Nikki Sixx's "The Heroin Diaries" and ponder on how some memoirs have a way of sometimes making you warm up to rockstars you may have used to think were fucking dolts.

PLAYLIST:

This week:

-We played new killer material from AIRBOURNE, NEGATOR, QUEENSRYCHE, MORGENGRAU, and lots fucking more;
-I reviewed albums while putting a slightly laughable emphasis on how much the effin' breakdowns can ruin the substance of an album when used in one excessive amount;
-I talked in length about my impressions on Australian hard rock and metal and exactly how fine the Aussie output almost always is;
-I enthuse about how much YEARS OF TYRANTS gives me a really apt fix as I sit and wonder exactly where NECROPHAGIST has been this past couple years;
-I weigh in on the SLAYER updates - yes, again - I'm no fan of Kerry King's absolutely cold antics when it comes to how Jeff Hanneman is doing, and I rant about their apparently plumeting friendship;
-I dive into bits and pieces of rock and roll and metal interviews I find so fucking hilarious it's hard to believe those archives are even for real.

In short, it was a messy, dirty, and moody installment as always - grab your beer keg and BBQ, sit around, and make your comments heard. The fun will absolutely never end.

DESCRIPTION:

This week, I got to unwind about a bunch of stuff I can't help but scoff at in the metal actuality. Actually, oftentimes, I don't scoff no more; I actually get bummed out over how idiotic some folk can be or how sad some situations can end up being.

FIRST OFF:

-We check out some audio of Rob Caggiano striving to explain the unexplainable: why he left ANTHRAX to join VOLBEAT as a full-timer guitarist. Of course, he does talk in heaps about how little freedom he had in the Ian & Benante team of two; to me, that doesn't justify going for MTV Stardom rather than sticking to his metal roots. He's coming out of the closet as something of a pop fan, cos let's face it, VOLBEAT is pretty fucking accessible. New ANTHRAX doesn't suck even nearly as bad - so what the heck got into the man? I talk about this in length and we also hear a hilarious tidbit of a rant from Scott from Blood & Guts;
-We discuss how some gimps reacted to Rex Brown's sudden decision to speak up about Dime and the PANTERA history in his new memoir. That topic's been all over the damned place and lots of coverage I've been reading has been fucking snobbish and less than respectful towards the guy; lots of pussies out there like to try and bully the dude about the taxes he didn't pay and manage to tie this in with the goddamned book. I'm not BS'ing you.
-Speaking of memoirs, I recently started reading Mustaine's (yes - the Dave I publically qualify as pretentious and out of line these days) and finally came to understand all the bitch fights between him and METALLICA over the years and just why they won't stop; I read ya some snippets of the book and get you in the right vibe to figure it out yourself.
-I talk at length about this uber gigantic wave of prog that's been taking over the whole scene in virtually every single country since the year started.
-I review a bunch of records on the air and I don't hesitate to call a cat a cat, as always.
-I play some new kickass shit from VICTOR GRIFFIN'S IN-GRAVED, CHOSEN, CLUTCH, JUNGLE ROT,BOVINE, CALL OF THE VOID, A MILLION MILES,REVEL IN FLESH, OCTOBER TIDE, DGM, & much, much, much more - you're in for a three-hour treat folks.
